After sending over 30 years in finance I decided it’s time to pursue a passion of mine sewing. As a child I use to watch my mum design, sew and embroidery and I picked up the skill. She was very good a creating a design from the top of her head and then turning it in to a beautiful work or art. I use to love seeing her pencil out flowers on a sheet panel then stitch with vibrant colours and produce a lovely table cloth. She was my inspiration and still is although she’s retired now.
My first serious project was a two piece garment for my friend 18th birthday, which I designed and made from scratch without a pattern. I’ve got that skill from my mum. However, I taught myself to follow patterns for various garments I’ve made since. I also make curtains, cushions, bedspreads and various other soft crafts. Oh! And yes I do knit. A little secret about me I’ve been knitting this red scarf for years and refuse to finish it as I only pick it up around Christmas time, crazy right! Lol.
Last year after complete a project manager’s role contract, I found myself out of work. It was at that point I knew I have to re-evaluate my life and make some changes. I knew I had this skill lying dormant and wanted to revive it again. So I decided that I wanted to start making bags and expand my portfolio not only doing soft furnishings but be diverse in other areas. My ambition is to share variations of creative items I make that can be enjoyed by everyone.
Bedrock Creations was created. One moment, am running away with myself. Back in 2004 I attempted to set up a business called Bedrock Soft Furnishings, however, this name and business did not take off, you know life happens. I knew I wanted to expand my range and Bedrock Soft Furnishings I felt limited me so Bedrock Creations was form. My motto remains the same “building on a firm foundation”. I can be as creative and diverse as I want to be. Wooooh.
As mentioned about I sent years in finance crunching numbers and to the latter part of my career was a Finance Project Manager. Although, I love numbers I fought it was time to do something different and see what else I can become a success in. So giving myself this break has allowed me to follow a path to a dream hidden for a very long time. Am sure many of you reading this can agree that you would love to pursue your dreams but can’t see how it’s going to work especially in the current climate we are in. Take heart it can be done if you work towards your goal you will achieve the success you crave.
Please enjoy surfing my website. I will be updating it on a regular basis with lots of new projects for you to feast your eyes on with a view to purchase your peach of Bedrock Creations. So stay turned.
